Fruit Protection and Nutrition

It is our priority to optimise growing conditions to produce top quality fruit and protecting our developing crops is vital part of this process.

We cover our Nadorcotts with nets. The main reason for this is to keep the fruit seedless by preventing cross pollination with seeded varieties. The netting also protects orchards from wind, hail, frost and sunburn and this has a positive influence on the general quality of our fruit.

For all our production, we make use of fertigation via drip irrigation which improves the nutrient absorption of our plants and reduces evaporation. For all our production, we make use of fertigation via drip irrigation which improves the nutrient absorption of our plants and reduces evaporation. The process of crop development consists of six developmental stages. During each of these stages, the optimal daily irrigation and nutritional volumes differ.

We follow these and provide the plants with the optimal daily water and nutrition that they require according to each developmental phase.

For orchard and vineyard establishment and crop development, we take regular leaf and soil samples to analyse the health and needs of the plants and adjust the nutrition as required immediately.

Our computerised irrigation allows for optimum water application without wastage or leaks and the ongoing soil moisture level reports from our moisture probes makes it possible for us to make any necessary adjustments to ensure that each plant receives the water it requires.
